Hello everyone!
I know that the anime club has a cosplay thread, but since this can be such a big thing for a lot of crafters, I thought it might be interesting to have a thread that's not just about who we're going as, but how we're constructing the costume!

Okay, so this year I'm going as one-winged Sephiroth. Which for me, is all about the wing. I think I have most of the design worked out (with pics from the tutorials I'm using). I'm using this set of instructions (with modifications): www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-pair-of-Angel-Wings/The basic instructions come out with this wing set: Modifications: I'm using PVC pipe for strength, flexibility, and price. I'm using a different hinge design so that I can control the opening and closing of the wing using a handle on the back of the costume under the jacket. I'm taking the hinge design from here, www.andsewingishalfthebattle.com/tutorials/34-tutorials/52-the-angel-wing-tutorial , and modifying it to include some reinforcing where the pin goes through. Instead of real feathers, I'll be using this tutorial for making cloth feathers: sunnybrook1.deviantart.com/art/Realistic-Wing-Tutorial-P-2-175523669I'll be making a harness out of PVC pipe and a camping pack belt (I hope), designed to carry the weight on my hips and also with extra weighted piping to balance out the one wing. I'll also have extra internal piping in the wing to run the wires that control the opening and closing of the wing through, so that they don't catch in my hair / costume. How the wing enters the harness will be based on the design in the same tutorial as for the hinges, though the harness won't involve the board.
